History:
The German theatre was opened in 1896 as a house for naturalistic-realistic speech theatre. In 1897 the change occurred in an institution for high entertainment theatre. Short description:
In January and February the German theatre changes into the ball-room of the city of Munich. Then the theatre is the biggest ballroom of the town and with his splendid decorations the stronghold of the Munich ball carnival. Called from the inhabitants of Munich affectionately "palace of the smile", the German theatre is a unique event in the German stage scenery and at the same time one of the entertainment theatres most steeped in tradition of Germany.
With the German theatre Munich confesses as the only German town to the wide genre of the musical stage entertainment.
