History of the theatre:
Already at the foundation time the programme was dominated by operettas, song plays and folk plays and is marked till this day beside the serious opera also by the lighter types of the music theatre.
The gardener's place theatre was founded in 1865 as "an Actien-national theatre". In 1872 it was appointed by king Ludwig II to the third court stage. Since 1937 it is under care of the Bavarian free state.
Built up in 1948 after heavy war damages.
